New Blog For Lovers Of Dogs

Dogs of course are probably the most popular animals on the planet worldwide. This includes the Arctic north as well since the Inuit have relied on husky dogs for ages. I saw many husky dogs when I was in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut territory in Canada. There's a photo of some of them at my Iqaluit article.

Speaking of dogs, if you are a lover of dogs, I just started a new blog called Life With Dogs Blog. Hope you will check it out. And yes, those are my lhasa apso dogs at the top.

Australian Blog Picks Up Workplace Diversity Training Article

Diversity speaker Clint Cora got one of his articles picked up in an Australian blog called School Friends. It's an article he wrote about Workplace Diversity Training. The fact that a blog geared towards students have picked it up means that they are already thinking about the importance of embracing diversity as well as developing the associated skills for their future careers. Perhaps with the immigration of Asians as well as the native Australian aboriginal people mixing in with others there, the Australians have been keen on diversity. Good for them!

Native Canadian Protest Against Winter Olympics

The Olympic torch relay touched down in Toronto, Ontario this week and it was a great event for all, except for a few people. Looks like there was a Native Canadian protest that disrupted the Olympic torch relay a bit in downtown Toronto. Organizers had to change the route a bit. This is a real shame as such protests should have no place in the world of peaceful international sports. Protesters should take their voice to some other venue. If they were hoping to gain some sympathy, they certain had that backfired on them since their actions were definitely not appreciated by the crowds of others who came to see the Olympic torch.

Only One More Eskimo Native Basket Left

We just sold one of our two remaining Eskimo Inuit native baskets left at our gallery. So only one more remains and if you are a native baskets collector, these baskets from the north are quite rare. These types of native baskets are made only seasonally with the local sea lime grass in a region known as Nunavik. See more information at Eskimo Native Baskets.

Source For Native American Weapons Found

We just found a very good source for Native American weapons like bow and arrow sets and tomahawks. Swords.com which is a leading source for high quality weaponry like Samurai and medieval swords, carries a selection of nice Native American weapons. Although these are replicas, they are of very high quality. To see what they have, click on the graphic below to their website and then click on the Weapons tab. Then click on Native American which will then bring up the right page.

Canadian Aboriginal Festival Moved To Different City

Looks like the Canadian Aboriginal Festival was no longer in Toronto this year. The new location was in Hamilton. This is the largest native aboriginal festival in Canada and was at the Skydome in Toronto for many years. When I went about two years ago, I already noticed that the attendance was good but not great. The Skydome seats certainly looked rather empty as it was a much larger venue than what the festival probably required.

Now that the festival was relocated to Hamilton, it probably would look busier. Also the sign of the economic times also likely had an influence why a relocation was necessary.

Native Art Inuit Art Calendars From Different Company

We got a call from a lady yesterday asking why there are shipping charges for the Native art calendars and Inuit art calendars when our website says free shipping within North America. This is because the free shipping applies to the items that our Free Spirit Gallery sells, not for the products from our partners. The Native art calendars and Inuit art calendars go through Calendars.com which is a totally separate company from us although we do highly recommend them.

Removed Two Art Retailer Partners

Long time visitors to Free Spirit Gallery may have noticed that we have removed two art retailer partners from our website, one for African art and the other for mainly southwest native Kachina dolls. This is because we have found problems with their websites which is probably a result of neglect due to the recession. Since we want to recommend only reliable art sources for our Free Spirit Gallery visitors, we have removed them. We still do have art partners that we suggest for both African art and Kachina dolls.

African Art Make Great Christmas Gifts

African art make great and unique Christmas gifts. Although we don't carry African art, we have been dealing with an online partner of ours for some time and they have a wide selection of African art in the form of tribal masks, carvings, textiles and even African drums. Our Suggested Source For White Stone Inuit Art Carvings

Since the holiday shopping season is here, we will suggest several of our favorite sources for various forms of Inuit art and native art over the next couple of days. First, our long time partner for uniquely white stone Inuit art carvings is Gallery Canada. White stone is pretty uncommon since most Inuit carvers tend to use dark color stones for their artwork. But Gallery Canada has sourced a specific part of the Arctic where the local carvers do use white stone. Take a look at the Gallery Canada website.

How Aboriginal Students Can Do Well In College

Here's a new video where I describe the study skills strategy I used to pull myself out of the rut during my studies. It is a great effective strategy in answering how to do well in college or university. High school students can also use it as well. In fact, they are highly recommended to use it as the earlier they get used to this method, the better they will do in college or university. A great thing about this method is that it doesn't involve any cramming for exams! Aboriginal and non-aboriginal students alike can benefit by using this study strategy. So check out this How To Do Well In College University video to learn more about it.

Karate Champion Would Love To Entertain Youth Audiences Up North

To see an example that was recently caught on video during a college campus activities conference showcase, see how he keeps the audience entertained at the middle of his Youth Speaking Program webpage. He would love to travel up north to the Canadian Arctic to do the same with the Inuit youth up there. If only some organizations would sponsor the travel.

Sexy Diversity Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Yes, Diversity Can Make You Sexy!

Toronto, Ontario, Canada - October 22, 2009 - Diversity, inclusion and equity are important factors promoted in society these days, especially in companies. However, sometimes diversity is considered as just another politically correct topic that doesn’t grab much public interest. Fortunately according to motivational and diversity speaker Clint Cora, diversity can certainly be a very sexy topic.

Cora claims that personal skills, which he refers to as ‘diversity skills’, developed from interactions with a wide variety of people from different cultures make an individual more attractive and sexy. He even proves his claim with a fun audience activity during his talks.

Women Prefer Mr. Worldly

The ladies in his audiences are presented profiles of two different men. Bachelor number one is the ‘Sports & Beer’ guy who only likes to talk about sports and is not well traveled resulting in a very narrow exposure to different cultures. He’s the typical meat and potatoes man, preferring to stick with very standard cuisine with a few bottles of beer.

In contrast, bachelor number two through his travels around the world has been exposed to many different foreign cultures, people, food, customs and languages. This man is definitely more ‘worldly’ than the first one.

When the women are asked to choose which guy they think would be a more interesting date based on just these characteristics, Cora reports, “They always overwhelmingly vote in favor for Mr. Worldly.”

Diversity Skills Make People Sexier

This proves that if a man immerses himself with culture and develops the diversity skills to be able to interact well with many different people, he will probably be considered sexier than other men who are much less cultured.

This can work for the ladies as well since cultured and sophisticated women are often considered more sexy than those who are not adventurous enough to appreciate diversity.

Cora says, “Let’s face it, anybody who has experienced the world is always more interesting to talk to compared to somebody who hasn’t ventured out too far from home.” He goes on to add that, “A diverse environment also offers ideal opportunities for people to develop diversity skills.”

Since diversity skills are now essential to both business and personal success in a diverse society such as North America, Clint Cora, a well-traveled former corporate executive and karate world champion, presents a program called ‘Kick Down Diversity Barriers For Success’ at companies, universities and colleges – see www.clintcora.com for more info and articles on success. Being skilled in diversity is indeed very sexy.

Thoughts About Hotel Rwanda Movie and Rwandan Genocide

I just saw the movie Hotel Rwanda this weekend which was about how a hotel manager saved the lives of hundreds of people during the Rwandan genocide. The movie and some subsequent online research finally gave me a better understanding of what happened during this terrible period in Rwanda. It's absolutely incredible and sad how such a thing can still happen in modern times. We would think that our capacity to hate and discriminate should be diminished in humanity by now but looks like that's not the case unfortunately. This is yet another reason why diversity education is so important in our society so that something as horrible as the Rwandan genocide never happens again. At least this movie made me feel good that I as a human being, am doing something good for society by promoting and speaking on diversity. African culture is awesome and there's certainly no reason for people of different ethnicities there or anywhere else to hate each other.

Diversity Can Make You Sexy

Diversity is often a topic these days that fits under the politically correctness category and therefore not a very sexy topic. Issue about integrating Native Americans into the rest of American society is the same thing in terms of public attention. However, it doesn't have to be that way. Diversity can indeed make you sexy and everyone likes to be sexy. So here is a new article that discusses just how diversity can make you sexy!

Advice For Aboriginal Students Facing Job Market

I was asked by a college magazine on some advice to give to college students, particularly seniors who will be facing the job market. Since I speak at colleges, one of the things that I tell students all the time is that they should work to develop their people skills, ie., their ability to interact well with lots of different types of people. People skills will be more important than their grades when determining how successful they will be in their future careers. Also, because we live in a more diverse society now, it is important for students to be able to work with people from all different backgrounds and cultures. This is what I do in my college diversity presentations. People and diversity skills, whether acquired through part time work, volunteer work or even extra-curricular activities with people other than their friends, will separate these forward thinking students from their competition in the job market. This advice would be equally effective for aboriginal students as well.

Star Trek Is A Great Example Of Diversity

I saw the latest Star Trek movie yesterday and much like other types of movie (Star Wars, etc) in this science fiction genre, there is often a mix of different human races as well as aliens working together. I recall the series Star Trek Voyageur where the first office was of Native American origins. It was during one episode that I was first introduced to the concept of the dreamcatcher. This is a great example of diversity working at its best and this latest Star Trek movie was no exception. Seeing a developing friendship between Kirk and Spock was a real pleasure. Having said that, seeing Spock kissing with Uhura was certainly not expected!

Art Auctions On Cruise Ships

Yes, it's true, they do have art auctions on cruise ships. This is one of the entertaining aspects of having meetings and conferences one cruise ships. I did attend a cruise on the Mediterrean Sea as part of a pharmaceutical company meeting. At that time, I was product marketing manager and was involved in organizing a big meeting for our entire sales force and marketing team on a Celebrity cruise of the Mediterrean. Thinking about that particular cruise, I was quoted in a recent article about meetings on cruise ships.

Using Diversity In Job Interviews

Recently when I presented 'Kick Down Diversity Barriers For Success' for an executive networking group, I suggested to them that one of the most powerful strategies that can be used during job interviews either externally (for new positions) or internally (for job promotions) involves diversity skills. The group thought that was the most important learning point for them. So I decided to write a new article based on this strategy of using diversity skills in job interviews. If you are lucky enough to be located near native groups and are a big fan of their art, interactions with them will count as using diversity skills. Helping them produce a cultural show would be a really good success story to have.

Karate World Champion Says Companies Must Motivate During Tough Times

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Karate World Champion Says Companies Must Motivate During Tough Times

Toronto, Ontario, Canada - September 28, 2009 - According to former Canadian National Karate Team member and Karate World Champion Clint Cora, Canadian companies must keep their employees motivated, especially during these tougher economic times. What makes this martial arts expert qualified to make such a claim? It turns out that Cora is also a former sales and marketing executive who spent over twenty years in the corporate world.

Certain Staff Are Vulnerable If Not Motivated

Motivation is required for any employee but is even more crucial for those in roles that have more direct consequences on revenues such as company sales forces. Another is customer service staff since they have direct customer interaction. Production teams also fall into this category because overall quality is impacted by the efforts of assembly lines. And of course, those who see their colleagues being laid off are also vulnerable if not kept motivated.

During booming economic periods, many companies had incentive programs to help motivate employees. They knew that if some employees were not happy, they could easily jump ship to other companies.

Having observed his former industry, Cora says, “I’ve seen top pharmaceutical sales representatives jump and quite often, these high performers would end up with direct competitors. Competitors love to snap up high performers much like professional sports teams do.”

Some management might think that since these are tougher times, the risk of losing valuable employees to competitors would be much lower with the perception that most people would be happy just to have a paying job during recession. There might be a lower need to motivate employees since there probably won’t be much jumping around to other companies.

Both Company Loyalty And Work Quality Can Be Affected

However, Cora claims that this may not be true as he states, “Security of a job is not the only motivating factor among many employees, particularly younger ones. Even though it’s true that many may stay with a company without much motivation from management, it doesn’t mean that they will be motivated to perform their jobs at high levels. Quality as well as loyalty will suffer as a result with potential negative impact on bottom lines. Companies still need to motivate during both good and bad times.”

Cora, now a motivational and diversity speaker as well as author of the book “The Life Champion In You”, knows about motivation as he went from losing a parent to suicide to become a karate world champion. This journey combined with his professional background enables him to motivate business audiences with a very unique angle. He also has a monthly motivational newsletter and audio podcast at his website www.clintcora.com. With the present state of the economy, we can all certainly use as much motivation as we can get, especially from a world champion urging us on through these tougher times.

Canadian Arctic Needs Motivational Speakers

When I think about the high drop out rates of Inuit school kids up in the Canadian Arctic as well as the general tough times the communities up there are going through, it's apparent that the region could use visits from motivational speakers. Only a quarter of the Inuit students will finish high school. Alcohol abuse and suicides are rampant. I would be more than willing to go up there as a motivational speaker and speak for free if my travel was paid for. Unfortunately, travel to the Canadian Arctic, especially flights, are very expensive. But if any government agencies or private organizations with interests in the Arctic are willing to foot the travel cost, then I'm in and I will be more than happy to bring both my adult motivational presentation as well as my youth talks.

Corporate Diversity A Huge Observation

I was the guest keynote speaker at the annual general meeting for a career skills company last week where they had 150 staff from nine different branches come together for an entire afternoon. One of the huge observations I made right away was the high level of corporate diversity among the staff. Many races, cultures and a few handicapped individuals were represented. I will be the guest speaker for a local telephone company later this coming week and I expect a similar observation since utility companies also tend to have much corporate diversity. Although both of my keynotes for these two companies are motivational, I would think (hope) that they will want me to return to do a corporate diversity talk given their diverse staffs. This is a good thing for the native art world since companies with diversity tend to appreciate different cultures more and the chances of native art acquisitions would be greater.

University Student Government Association On Diversity

The student government association from Gannon University recognized the need for diversity skills training for its students. This is why Clint Cora was brought in as a diversity speaker to do his 'Kick Down Diversity Barriers For Success' presentation. The campus is getting more diverse each year with students from overseas as well as Native Americans. Gannon U's Lecture Chair Matt Blair says,

"We just hired Clint Cora to start out our year at Gannon University
as a diversity motivational speaker. I really liked it because in
terms of being on campus and even with dealing with the corporate
world, we have so many problems about understanding differences."

He adds,
"I think Clint did a great job of providing examples as well as
activities where they helped people assimilate into other
groups they might not know or might not talk to."

Matt is even on video talking about the diversity presentation Clint did at Gannon University.

Aurora Borealis Northern Lights Photo In Diversity

One of the images that I use during my presentations as a diversity speaker is one of the Aurora Borealis or northern lights. Believe it or not, the northern lights does have a role in diversity during my talks. These lights are actually the reason for a relatively unknown diversity success example from the tourism business world. Although I don't use this particular shot for my diversity presentations, there's a nice photo used for the cover of the an Aurora Borealis northern lights calendar It's the last one right after the three Inuit art calendars.

Dolphin Calendars for 2010

One of my all time favourite animals is the dolphin. I've swam with them and scuba dived with them. They are like big dogs in the ocean. I've seen the odd native artwork featuring dolphins but not many. Certainly more whales than dolphins. A few years ago, my then girlfriend bought me a really nice calendar full of dolphin photos. I'm thinking of getting a new one for 2010 and there is a great selection of these dolphin calendars for next year. Check them out if you are a dolphin lover too. There are also 1-2 shark calendars there too in case you prefer sharks.

Requirements of College Diversity Speakers For Campus

Here's a new article about what I feel are the requirements of college diversity speakers for your campus. It covers some thoughts on what they should cover as well as possible backgrounds of the speakers themselves. Of course, the ultimate goal is to educate and leave the campus audience with positive vibes about diversity especially with so many diverse student bodies including overseas students as well as aboriginal students. So this article, written by Clint Cora, will help you choose the right college diversity speaker to come present at your college or university campus.

Self Improvement Requires Regular Motivation

I did a talk last night and one of the points that came up with discussion with my audience was that self improvement requires regular motivation. The reason why many people fail in self improvement is that they forget important principles of what they learn in seminars and talks. Then they are back to where they started from. If people made a commitment to read motivation and self improvement books or listen to self improvement audio podcasts for example on a regular basis, principles will stay top of mind and the chances of taking action for success are much higher. Native people need the resources to provide them with this regular motivation.

If Inuit Artists Can Still Do Art Full Time

It will be interesting to see if given the tough economic times and lower demand for art, if Inuit artists can still do art full time. The recession can be an opportunity in disguise if some of them who might not be as busy with art as before, to undergo personal development and learn some new skills in addition to art that they can apply to their careers.

Student Affairs and Campus Diversity Activities

Since colleges and universities are becoming more diverse each year, student affairs departments have great opportunities to take advantage of this fact and program campus diversity activities that will help achieve certain outcomes suggested by Learning Reconsidered. Learning Reconsidered was a document jointly released by NASPA and ACPA in 2004. A new article identifies and describes which specific learning outcomes that can be achieved by student affairs staff if the right campus activities involved diversity. A great example of such a campus activity would be a pow wow dance show by Native American dancers.

Learning Reconsidered And Native American Culture

A college document called Learning Reconsidered may help promote native American culture to colleges and universities since one of the learning outcomes is Humanitarianism which involves appreciation and understanding of other cultures. This document suggests that students learn and develop outside as well as inside the classroom. Campus activities can therefore included cultural elements like native American arts to broaden student exposure. This is one way that diversity and this Learning Reconsidered document could work well together and a new college diversity article details this much more.

Toronto Diversity Program Still Needed

It's interesting because I was speaking to a group of adults in Brantford last night (about 1 hour from Toronto) and they were mentioning that although we live in a pretty culturally diverse society here in Ontario, we still need a Toronto diversity program because not everyone is respectful of other cultures and differences. The fact that this type of thing exists even in a diverse environment shows that there is still a lot of room for diversity education. My diversity education program is presented mainly to college and university students but looks like the professional adult workplace will be another area that I'll be called on to talk about diversity skills.

Mississauga Motivational Speaker

Mississauga is Canada's sixth largest city with lots of industry as well as a city hall that has some nice Canadian native art. Mississauga companies now have the luxury of having motivational speaker and karate world champion Clint Cora based in town. This means that companies who required motivational speakers for their meetings will not have to pay to fly in an outside motivational speaker and put them up at hotels. Clint Cora is right in the neighbourhood so all travel expenses usually associated with bringing in a motivational speaker are eliminated. A local speaker like Clint can certainly make things easier on meeting budgets for not only Mississauga area companies, but all companies located in the greater Toronto area.

College Diversity Was Discussed During Radio Interview

The subject of diversity and more specifically, college diversity, was discussed during my radio interview yesterday at ThatChannel. It was brought up because the host Hugh Reilly said that when he was in college, it was not really all that diverse. We all agreed on that with similar observations from our own school days and how things have changed. College diversity is becoming an important topic on campuses these days. This is a great opportunity for native groups to get their cultures exposed to the knowledge hungry college students. As soon as this radio interview becomes available online, it will be announced here.

July Native Art Gallery Newsletter

I went to a conference recently where entertainment acts showcased in front of representatives from colleges and universities from across the USA. Most acts were solo musicians, bands and comedians. One of the acts that really stood out was a Native American dance troupe of about five members.

They performed for about 15 minutes in total. They came out together and then took turns one or two at a time dancing to a number while the others sang and played a large pow wow drum they had onstage. The dances were very much like those at the large Aboriginal Festival I attended - the video clip here shows such a dance very similar to what I saw at the conference.

The college audience was quite receptive and I think the troupe got booked for some shows at colleges as a result of their showcase. This was great since it helps college students get a good appreciation of Native American culture and helps bring people together.

Discovery Channel is also doing some good things in helping people understand Native American culture better. They have a 4-DVD set called Cowboy Country that has vivid reenactments of legendary heroes, scoundrels, frontier towns, outposts and tribal villages from the old wild American west. See this Discovery Channel webpage for more info on this set;

The August Native art newsletter will be coming out to our free subscribers on Monday so make sure you get on our list by signing up at the boxes at the top right of this blog page.

Only One Polar Bear With Teeth Inuit Sculpture Left

It turns out that a local customer did in fact take one of the polar bear Inuit sculptures featuring teeth yesterday. This leaves only one (and very rare) polar bear with teeth left in our Inuit sculpture collection from our gallery. It is pictured below and more details on it are available by clicking on the image.

American College Students Agree With Canadians

Well, it seems that American college students agree with Canadian students when it comes to what they thought and learned at the college diversity program by diversity speaker Clint Cora.  You can see many video clips of students from both the US and Canada talking about diversity at the college students video webpage.  Student leaders from both countries are mixed throughout the page.

Rare Polar Bear Carvings With Teeth Will Go

For quite some time, we've had two rare polar bear carvings in our gallery with teeth.  Most Inuit art carvings do not feature teeth on polar bears so the two we have from Pangnirtung are indeed quite rare.  It turns out that by this afternoon, most likely one of them will be gone as a local customer needs a polar bear as a business gift.  So at the end of today, there will be only one of these polar bears left.  If you have your eye to acquire a polar bear carving with teeth, you better keep an eye at our gallery website to see which one is left.

Gallery Owner Motivational Speaker Available For Radio Interviews

Motivational speaker, author, karate world champion and gallery owner Clint Cora is available for radio interviews.  Here's one testimonial from a station where he did a radio interview this year.

"In May of this year, we at 93.5 CHMR-FM had the pleasure of interviewing Clint Cora. The interview gave our listeners a good insight the capabilities of Clint as an entertaining and informative motivational speaker.  Clint drew from his personal experience to support his belief that we have within us the potential to become true champions."

"Clint shared the entertaining self-effacing story of his lack of athletic ability as a school boy, and how he made his way to become a Karate World Champion.  Then he shared the story of his mother’s untimely death when he was a teenager and his determination to avoid being a victim of that tragedy."

"Finally, Clint shared some of the message of his new book, “The Life Champion in You” urging us to be totally committed to what we want and to continually take action to expand our comfort zones."

"I recommend Clint Cora to other radio stations as an entertaining and valuable addition to their programming."

Nami Ohara, DJ, 93.5 CHMR-FM, St. John’s, Newfoundland

New Videos Of College Students Talking About Diversity Program

Just came back with a whole bunch of new video clips of college students talking about diversity on campus .  Their 'performances' were quite good with just single takes.  It's nice to see that the US college students are pretty well saying the same things as their Canadian counterparts which suggest that the acceptance of diversity is getting quite universal among college students.  This is a great thing since it means that the new generations are very receptive to other cultures in society.

Motivational Audio CD Book Package A Big Hit

Clint Cora was keynote speaker at a Toronto business association dinner and he briefly mentioned the diversity in today's work environment particularly in Canada which included native Canadian and Inuit people.  The real surprise was how popular his new motivational audio CD and book was to attendees.  Clint had offered his book The Life Champion In You as a separate item or the book together with his new 2.75 hour audio CD as a package.  About 75% of buyers took the motivational audio CD and book package.  This might suggest that there is definitely a trend towards using listening in addition to just reading as the way to learn about concepts and principles.

Personal Development With Adventure Travel

I just got the latest brochure from Adventure Canada which features very exclusive travel trips to the Arctic and other places in the world.  Their trips look great with lots of Arctic wildlife, Inuit communities and their Inuit art and scenery.  This type of adventure travel of course is great for personal development.  Travel to unique places in the world and getting exposed to things that one would not normally see at home can all contribute to one's personal development as a better appreciation of the world is achieved.  Indeed, travel was actually discussed as one way to contribute to personal development in Clint Cora's book, The Life Champion In You.

Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Documentary

I saw a National Geographic documentary on tv last night about the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska and the debate about oil drilling there.  It was a very interesting program outlining a very real issue with no obvious solutions at this point.  On one hand, people want to preserve the ANWR habitat as it is but on the other hand, America desperately needs another domestic source of oil of which our society has become so dependent on.

Then there are the native Alaskan people up there who need to preserve their land but at the same time, would love to make some much needed money so they can send their kids to college.

I was surprised about just how many products were in fact made from oil in our daily lives.  Again, there's no easy answers on what to do.

Take The Time During Recession To Learn

If one finds that life is tougher during the recession and that extra time is available due to a layoff or shorter working hours, there still is a way to benefit.  Take the time to learn extra skills by either enrolling in a course or simply by reading in the public library for free.  Even learn more about art and other topics of interest.

Also, take the time to reconnect with important people in your life as well as yourself.  I really don't think that people have taken the time to do this and recession periods will be ideal to do so.
I discuss these very points about how to best utilize extra time during this recession with Susan Lamb during a radio podcast interview that you can listen in on anytime.  It's a 24 minute podcast and worth listening to in order to get perhaps a different and healthy perspective on this recession.

Native Aboriginal Students In Northern Ontario

I met some college students from northern Ontario campuses this week and they told me that there is an increase of native aboriginal students.  This is good news since more of the native community is starting to move into higher education.  Of course, this also poses potential diversity issues which can be addressed by good diversity training at colleges.

Looks like the Canadian Mohawk First Nations people near Cornwall, Ontario are not too happy with Canadian border officials being armed with handguns.  They think that this situation will created unnecessary violence in their peaceful first nation community near the Canadian and US border.

Totem Pole Making On TV

Bravo TV has a show tonight at 8 pm EST called Making of a Haida Totem Pole which should be quite interesting as it shows native art carvers creating a totem pole for the Vancouver airport.  For more information on this type of native art, see totem poles.

Diversity Message On Stickers

I created a sticker that features a very important diversity message and this new sticker will be handed out to students at the upcoming COCA conference next week in St. John's.  It's part of a diversity campaign that is connected with my presentation on the topic of diversity.  This will fit in well as it's another tool I can use to spread the message as a diversity speaker.

Bruce Lee Mentioned As Hero During Radio Interview

Martial arts world champion, native art gallery owner and motivational speaker Clint Cora was interviewed by a radio station today and once again, he was asked if he had any heroes that influenced him in life.  Clint immediately cited Bruce Lee as the person who had the most influence on him.  This was also discussed during another radio interview a few weeks ago which is currently online for everyone to listen to.

Is Interest In Art Lower During Recession?

I've noticed that the number of visitors to our Native American art website has dropped over the last several weeks.  Has the recession lowered the interest in art?  Probably yes.  Native American art, like other forms of art, is considered a luxury item.  Certainly not in many people's minds these days due to the tough economic times.  But Free Spirit Gallery will still be running as usual with lots of articles and videos on Native American art.

Native Art Gallery Self Help Book

Here's what Shouvik Chowdhury of Rogers Communications wrote about Native art gallery owner and karate world champion Clint Cora's self help book, The Life Champion In You.

"The Life Champion in You is not just another motivational book, it has a lot more to offer. Clint Cora shares his personal experiences on how someone can get over personal tragedies and be successful. He offers simple tools one can use to track and eventually achieve success. The best feature of this book is that it communicates many powerful messages and proven techniques in few pages."

"There are many motivational books in the market. However most are hundreds of pages long which require a few weeks of reading. By thetime we are in the second half of the book, most of us have already forgotten the first half. Clint Cora avoids this by sticking to the point for each concept he introduces in his book. One can finish reading this book in a few hours and put the techniques into action the next day."

"The Life Champion in You teaches us to compete with ourselves than with others. Its techniques can be used in any area of life as the book says that 'success is measured by the individual'. The tools taught in this book can help anyone coast through the most difficult situations in life. I would highly recommend everyone to have one copy and read it at least once a month."

Native Art Museum Between Toronto and Montreal

As I was driving between Toronto and Montreal yesterday, I noticed a sign on the highway mentioning a native art museum.  I haven't been to this one before and I'm pretty sure that sign wasn't there before.  I might stop by on my way back. I do have a camera but didn't bring my camcorder.  This may be good content for future native art articles at Free Spirit Gallery.
